Yes. Once you redeem from the fund and receive ETF shares, you can trade them on the open market like any other ETF.
Why low trading volume doesn't mean low liquidity. ETFs are exchange-traded vehicles, so their liquidity depends on the liquidity of the underlying holdings — not on how often the ETF itself trades. If the underlying securities are liquid, market makers can efficiently create or redeem ETF shares as needed. That means investors can enter or exit even a thinly traded ETF.
Alpha Architect, whose platform manages over 75 ETFs and approximately $18B in assets, published a comparison of the 50 largest U.S. Large Blend ETFs and their underlying holdings versus AAUS, a syndicated 351 ETF on their platform. The finding: while AAUS trades far less frequently than typical equity ETFs, the liquidity of its underlying holdings (~27M shares/day) is comparable to the largest funds in the category (~24M shares/day average). For all ETFs on their platform, ETF Architect partners with leading market makers and appoints a designated lead market maker to help ensure an efficient market.
For large trades. If there are concerns about the market's ability to absorb the sale, we can work with you to facilitate a redemption through one of the financial institutions acting as an Authorized Participant for the ETF.
